Privacy Policy

Please read the following to learn more about our privacy policy.

By using the San Francisco 2016 Exploratory Committee (the “Committee”) website (the “Site”), you signify your acceptance of our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use our Site. Your continued use of the Site following the posting of changes to these terms will mean that you accept these changes.

Our Commitment

The Committee respects your concern about privacy. This privacy policy will tell you how we protect your personal information, and will describe the choices you have concerning our use of such information. Please read this policy carefully. We may need to change this policy from time to time in order to address new issues and reflect changes on our Site. We will post changes here so that you will always know what information we gather, how we might use that information, and whether we will disclose that information to anyone. Please refer to this policy regularly.

Online Information Gathering

Types of information collected by this site: information collected online is often defined as being either personally identifiable or anonymous:

Personally Identifiable Information

Lets us know the specifics of who you are, such as your name, email address or postal address

Anonymous Information

Is information that cannot be tied back to a specific individual.

Personally Identifiable Information

The use of personally-identifying information is limited to the following: responding to user e-mails; listing name and location (city, state and/or country) information provided by users when publishing user e-mails or other submissions; fulfillment of Online Shop orders; sending communications, including marketing and promotional communications, from the Committee to users who have 'opted in' to the receipt of such communications; other internal Committee purposes; and other purposes specified at the time the information is gathered.

Any information that you disclose when participating in discussions or chat forums becomes public. Moreover, by participating in discussions or chat forums, the e-mail address you provide for such purpose becomes available to any third parties accessing our Site and as a result, you may receive unsolicited e-mail from such third parties.

In addition, if you send an e-mail or other submission ("Submission") to the Committee through our Site, we may print that Submission, or an excerpt from it, on the Committee Site or otherwise publish it in any other medium, together with your name and location (city, state and/or country) if you provide that information to us.

Personally-identifying information collected by the Committee is not provided to outside parties, the Online Shop fulfillment service, and the Committee’s email list manager, and other third parties when the user specifically consents to such distribution. In these circumstances, the information is provided for the sole purpose of -- and only to the extent necessary for -- delivering goods to the user, delivering communications from the Committee to users who have 'opted in' to the receipt of these communications, or serving other internal Committee purposes.

The Committee also may disclose personal information if required to do so by law or if it believes that such action is necessary to (a) comply with the law or with legal process, (b) protect against misuse or unauthorized use of the Committee Site, or (c) protect the personal safety or property of Committee Site users, the public or the Committee and its employees.

If you do not want your personally-identifying information to be collected or used for any of these purposes, you can simply 'opt out' according to the process described below.

The Committee uses non-identifying aggregate information to analyze use of and better design the Site and to share with third parties in aggregate form only as appropriate. For example, we may tell a third party that a certain number of users accessed a particular audio stream on our Site. However, we will not disclose any information that could be used to identify those users.

Anonymous Identifiable Information

Like all other Web servers, the Committee’s web server automatically creates log files for each visitor who accesses our site. These "access logs" allow us to make our site more useful to our visitors. The access logs do NOT record a visitor's name, address, phone number, credit card numbers, or any other personally-identifying information. Rather, they contain some or all of the following information:

  • The Internet Protocol Address (IP Address) of the machine which accessed our Web site.
  • The date of the visit.
  • The time of the visit.
  • The path taken through our Web site.
  • The browser being used.
  • A list of files downloaded or viewed.
  • The amount of time spent listening to RealAudio or Windows Media files.
  • Any errors encountered.

Non-Disclosure

The Committee does not sell, rent, lend or give personally identifiable information collected from you on the Committee’s website to marketers. The one exception is that, although unlikely, the Committee may be required by law enforcement or judicial authorities to provide personally identifiable information. In these cases, we will provide this information as and to the extent we have determined that the disclosure of any such information is appropriate.

Security

The Committee has in place what we believe to be appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. Credit card information provided to the Online Shop is protected against unauthorized use by 128-bit encryption and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security features, which scramble your personal information so that only your web browser and our Web site's server can decipher it.

Cookies

The Committee also uses 'cookies' to collect information. A cookie is a string of characters that can be written to a file on the user's hard drive when the user visits a website. Only the website that set the cookie can read it, and it can only be used as a record keeping device to store information that the site already has. It cannot, for example, be used to read other information from the user's hard drive.

The Committee uses cookies to track users' activity through the site in order to improve the Site's architecture, to offer the user interactive features that would not be possible without them, and to recall specific information to save the user time during subsequent visits to the Site. For example, cookies allow the Committee to remember your media player (e.g., Real Audio or Windows Media) preference. Discussions and chat forums, the Online Shop, and other interactive features also use cookies. Our sponsorship service vendors, which serve sponsorship messages onto our Site, and vendors that measure the use of sanfrancisco2016.org, may also use their own cookies. If you wish to prevent certain or all cookies from being set to your hard drive you may disable them in your browser's preferences, although your browser might then be unable to accommodate certain functionalities on sanfrancisco2016.org.

Links/Badges

Users will find links to other sites or services on the Committee Site. In addition, the Site offers 2016 San Francisco badges, which allow third parties to download the 2016 San Francisco badges and link back to the Committee Site. Although we attempt to initially visit the sites or services that are linked to the Committee’s Site, we do not control the content or links that appear on these sites. In addition, these sites or services, including their contents and links, may be constantly changing. The fact that we have made these links and badges available to you is not an endorsement or recommendation to you by the Committee. We provide these links only as a convenience. Other companies linked to this Site may collect information about you when you view or click on these sites. We cannot control this collection of information. You should contact these content providers directly if you have any questions about their use of the information they collect. These sites and services may have their own privacy policies, or no policy at all. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third party sites or services before providing any of them with your personal information.

Users are reminded that chat rooms and forums are for public discussion. Any personal information supplied by users during these discussions is widely accessible. The user understands that it may be impossible to delete personal information entirely because of backups and records of deletions.

The Committee reserves the right to change this policy. Any changes to this policy will be posted to this page as soon as reasonably possible, so please check this page periodically. Use of the Committee Site constitutes consent to any policy then in effect.
